Dingle - Ventry - Dunquin: 22.4 km (13.9 miles)
Leaving the Emlagh Lodge B&B and Dingle via its lovely harbour and marina, we follow a minor gently undulating road to reach Ventry. A superb delicatessen allowed us to stock up for lunch before taking to the excellent sandy beach, with a respite at Fionntru. Going inland at Raheen we follow tracks and boreens to briefly take the main road before steeply ascending into the hillside onto the lower shoulder of Mount Eagle. Walking alongside dry stone walls, passing archeological remains of clochans, crossing the watercourse and admiring the spectacular views of the Blasket Islands, we eventually arrive at a steep descent to the R559 north of Slea Head. Walking through Coumeenoole and under Dunmer's Head, the main road finally brings us to Dunquin Pier and our next overnight stop.
(Total ascent 370m)
