Dingle Way - Day 4/4

Updated: Aug 1, 2023

Feohanagh - col (Brandon) - Cloghane: 25.7 km (16.0 miles)

Departing the fabulous An Riasc B&B, we head off via flat country lanes and field paths through Moorestown onto Ballinknockane. The hottest day so far, the ascent is gentle at first over waymarked open ground, but then steepening quite rapidly. The col at 650m, sits between Masatiompan at 763m and Piaras Mor at 748m, with the hidden summit of Brandon Mountain at 952m, a few km away. Spectacular views of both Smerwick and Brandon Bays awaited in this unprecedented clear, sunny but thankfully breezy weather. The precipitous descent into Brandon Bay has been made much more comfortable with a ladder of stone steps, until the Way joins a stone path and eventually a gravel road to emerge finally into Brandon Village and pier. Crossing the Owennafeanna river, country paths and lanes bring the final leg of this extraordinarily picturesque walking trip on the Dingle Way to a close at the Mount Brandon Hostel in Cloghane.

(Total ascent 750m)
