Maen Dewi Farm - Llysernydd - Dwr Cleifion - Trevinert - Pont Clegyr
Leading out to the coastline from Maen Dewi farm just north of St. David’s takes advantage of the public footpath that extends across the countryside skirting fields, marshes, small brooks and lakes. An infrequently used path at times was lushing overgrown with tall grass and cow parsley. However new styles and wooden braced steps allowed for good going. Taking the dirt track around Treninert eventually brings the coastline into view at Caer Bwdy Bay where the coastal path is easily picked up at the small footbridge that crosses the inlet stream.
The cliff top path is easy going maintaining elevation right through to Caerfai Bay. A compressed gravel path adorned with wild flowers and near side bracken meanders along an otherwise rocky coastline with numerous small coves and inlets but still with precipitous drops to the sea. Passing the Caerfai Bay camping and caravan site, the levelling path heads onto St. Non’s Bay and the second of two diversions to head into St. David’s City just a mile away. The smallest city in Britain, St.Davids is home to a wonderful cathedral and to this day remains an important pilgrimage site. Originally built on the site of St.David’s monastery, the present day cathedral was built in the 1100’s and has been restored significantly since then.
The city whilst tiny hosts a delightful collection of pubs restaurants and shops and on this occasion a fleeting visit, as our route took us out of St. David’s back to the farm to complete the circular walk for this half days excursion.
