Undertaking The Capital Ring: Section 11

Updated: Apr 1, 2022

Hendon Park to Highgate 5.3 miles (8.5km)

Rejoining the path at the footbridge, a short walk through the park and onto Brent Street brings the noisy North Circular Road soon into view. In no time the route enters Brent Park, a pretty little parkland with the River Brent forming a natural contour for the path to follow. Eventually leading onto the Dollis Valley Greenwalk and Mutton brook alongside, passing under the North Circular heralds further open grassy spaces and riverside paths to follow. In Hampstead Garden Suburb, the brook is surrounded by beautiful planted flower beds and ornamental trees, characterising this very affluent part of London. Crossing Northway Gardens and Littleton Playing fields, once the Bishop of Londons extensive hunting park, a small urban section brings the path into East Finchley. Crossing the Great North Road and then through Cherry Tree Wood, the now secluded path climbs steeply into Highgate Wood, an area protected by the Corporation of London for recreation. An idyllic broad wooded space with very open paths contrasts highly with Queens Wood, to follow, which is much hillier with a tighter winding path. Finally leaving the Woods and a short walk to Highgate station, brings this section to a close.
