Undertaking the Capital Ring: Section 13

Stoke Newington to Hackney Wick 3.7 miles (6 km)

Rejoining the Ring in Stoke Newington, a small urban section then leads into Springfield Park whereupon a panoramic view of north east London towards the Olympic park awaits. Crossing Horseshoe bridge into the London Borough of Waltham Forest, then takes the path alongside the Lee Navigation which continues into Hackney. Passing the Walthamstow Marsh Nature Reserve, an area of natural wetland and criss crossing footbridges to and from Hackney and new developed canal side homes and riverboat moorings, the old river river Lea returns. Eventually walking under the vivid green Cow Bridge and the A102M motorway with street art adorned columns, East Wick and the Queen Elizabeth park rise up on the horizon. The unmistakable huge steel structure and iconic symbol of the park, the ArcelorMittal Orbit and the Stadium itself come into tantalising view. Finally with the Copper Box Arena and rust coloured Kings Yard Energy Centre behind, Hackney Wick and it’s canal-side restaurants and bars, perfect as a place to stop for lunch and restore before walking on, brings a close to this section.
