Falconwood to Grove Park: 3.5 miles (5.6 km)
Returning to the Falconwood Footbridge and still sharing the path with the Green Chain Walk, the route leads on through Eltham Park South. Crossing the busy Bexley road and on through Conduit Meadow, with a sidewards glance to examine the Conduit Head sluice gates, the now urban path zig zags along until the high walls of the Eltham Palace neighbour the pavements alongside. Eventually arriving at the Gate to the Palace, home of the monarchy for over 250years, and with the Great Hall visible across from the moat, the King John’s Walk now skirts around the grounds of the palace to offer wonderful panoramic views of Central London. Crossing the railway line via footbridge and then the A20, the route takes a brief step into the London Borough of Bromley, to find Mottingham Lane. From this point the path follows part of the perimeter of Eltham College’s playing fields; former pupils of this grand establishment include of note, Eric Liddell and Melvyn Peake. Continuing on this straight and leafy gravel path, passing College Meadow and it’s formidable Pavillion, the concrete channel carrying the Quaggy River finally joins from the right to bring this section of the Ring to a close.
