Richmond to Osterley Lock - 4 miles (6.4 km)
A walk of a couple of hours at most, begins at Friars Lane as it emerges onto the Thames riverside trail path with Richmond Railway Bridge in full view ahead. Passing Old Deer Park and crossing over the Richmond lock footbridge, the route follows the Thames on up and through beautiful Old Isleworth with much evidence of historical boatyard industry past and for the present, house boat occupancy. From here traversing Syon Park, home of Syon House, the creation of both Robert Adam and Capability Brown in the 18th Century and finally spilling out into Brentford, the path meets and joins the Grand Union Canal. The Canal Walk path twists and turns with grace leaving newly developed Brentford Canal Basin behind. Crossing over to the opposite bank via the steeply humped iron Gallows Bridge and passing under both railway and motorway to eventually arrive at Osterley Lock, brings this section to a close.
