Osterley Lock to Greenford - 4.9 miles (7.9 km)
Very easily added on to Section 7, the walk continues along the Canal Walk passing locks and a footbridge where the River Brent leaves the canal passing over an extraordinary large weir and then meeting the Brent River Park Walk at the Hanwell Flight of 6 locks. A peaceful wooded backwater, where the riverside path meanders gently onwards, eventually leads onto Brent Meadow and the impressive Whamcliffe Viaduct which looms ahead. Staying close to the River Brent, the riverside path traverses grassy meadows, often wet and boggy but can be circumvented by staying closer to the Millennium Maze and Hanwell Zoo, a delightful footbridge then leads into Bittern’s field to connect with the wide open spaces and golf course of Perivale Park. Skirting the athletics track to the right and emerging onto the Western Avenue, a footbridge allows access to the short walk ahead into busy Greenford and quick access to it’s Central line underground station.
